Show: 88.9@Night
DL is a master of a laid back flow and soul samples, and he doesn’t subscribe to the belief that a soul sample sounds better when sped up to chipmunk speed. The beats in his songs are content to let the regular pitch of a classic soul record shine through. DL, short for Daniel Laurent, stopped by WERS Live Music Week 2006 to perform songs such as “Reminisce” and “Only Man,” are as memorable for their beats as they are for their lyrics–and it helps that DL knows how to tweak his flow around a song in order to best move the crowd. His “MASSterpiece (The Anthem)” was the most requested song on 88.9@Night in the last year, and possibly ever, so we knew he’d come show his love for Live Music Week, and he brought the energy in full force. Look for DL’s “The Suppression” LP in stores around Boston right now.
